The Democrats 2008 Choice: Sell Out & Lose, Or Stand Up & Win
This awesome article by David Sirota expresses my sentiments in having a Democrat nominee in 2008 that stands for something. That means not trying to sound, look and vote like a Republican. Democrats had a fighter in Howard Dean in 2004. He was the only candidate that stood firm against the War on Iraq. Dems ended up nominating John Kerry who was about the absolute worse candidate to have. Sure he was Vietnam War hero. He dodged bullets from the VietCong but got punkd by the SwiftBoat Vets? He never defended himself. After Ohio was in question he didn't even fight for our vote. Damn I miss Bill.
Not only did Kerry vote for the War on Iraq, he never ever connected with minority groups on the grass roots level. Kerry never gave people hope. Just a boring, monotone speech. The Republicans claimed week in and week out to be salivating at the thought of Bush running against Howard Dean. Sadly, enough gullible, Demwits took the GOP bait.
Some bullshit poll comes out a week or so before the New Hampshire primary citing that Dean was down 13 points and both Kerry and Edwards had surged ahead dramatically because of their new positive messages. What new positive message? They had been giving the same damn stump speech in NH for more than a year. Dean got screwed in New Hampshire. I don't know if it was a bogus poll that the right wing corporate media ran with or if they had electronic voting machines that played with the numbers. Bottom line - Dean got screwed.
Now here were are gearing up for 2008 and the Democratic nomination is already wrapped up by Hillary Clinton - So says every damn Republican pundit, commentator, politician - everybody. The GOP is up to their slick tricks again. That is what they want you to think people. This time around it is reverse psychology. They really do want to run against Hillary. They want you to think Hillary has the nomination on lock so that you will not bother with sending a donation to another candidate. Maybe you will think twice about listening to a speech or attending a rally for another candidate.
The reason they are telling you she is the nominee is because they know she has become HillaryLite and is basically trying to suck up to a larger voting audience. Plus she is ahead in polls because of name recognition, not because she is the best candidate. She has not been passionate about anything in particular that I can think of and has watered herself down to be almost a moderate republican wannabe. She has to though because her negatives are just as high as her name recognition points.
I'm not a Hillary hater by any means. Even though the Supreme Court handed the White House to George W. Bush on a silver platter, the right wing could not keep Hillary out of the US Senate. All I am saying is that Hillary is no Bill and she cannot win the White House in 2008. I think she would be a dynamic Vice President though. The first female Vice President and the wife of Bill Clinton to boot. The GOP would just be sick about it.
I will be commenting on the 2008 race off and on as the the story begins to unfold. As of today though, here is my dream nomination matchup. GOP: John McCain & Colin Powell vs. DEM: Al Gore & Hillary Clinton. I think America would get better under either Administration. I know Al as the Dem nominee sounds crazy to you but I just don't have the time or space to elaborate on him right now. But I will.
It is time to stand up Dems. America is at the crossroads. Which way you want to go? I'm Chaz Atlas and that's how I see it.
